A very Happy New Year to all of our club members and readers alike and onto our first game of 2019!
A very mild January morning for this time of year, to start off with a friendly against Sheffield Steelers. Sheffield who travelled over with three players down, with Stockport ever flush with 14 players, so we provided them three players for the game, leaving us with just one sub. Also a warm welcome back to Dan Teal from his absence from injury.
Q1. A slow start off into the game for everybody as the team appeared rusty and lethargic from all those selection boxes probably and a lack of training from the Christmas period, however, we soon got it together a little bit as the game went on. Henry got the first goal for Stockport who went on to have a really great game with some great runs from midfield. Sheffield managed to score a couple of goals however putting them in the lead by the end of the first quarter 1 : 2 to Sheffield.
Q2. Stockport gathered their spirits and Joshua, making some brilliant saves such as his one handed save to mention.Dan Teal won most of the face offs for Stockport assisting Jacob B. Defence fought well for the ball and threw it up the pitch turning defence into offence with another goal from Henry and four from Jacob B. End of quarter 6 : 3 to Stockport.
Q3. A swap over of players supplied to Sheffield and bringing in a few of our own younger players to run in midfield for Stockport. The same amount of good effort from both the teams, with a great kick in goal from Jacob B among others, as well as another from Henry, brought this quarter to end at 10 : 5 to Stockport.
Q4. Each teams scored 2 a piece in this quarter, in what was overall a stop start game from what can only be described as a keen referee. finishing the game 12. 7 to Stockport.
