New Score Keeper

Thank you to Phil for umpiring again and thank you to Rosie for stepping in at the last minute as Mellor's umpire cried off at the last minute. It's very much appreciated.

The pitch was perfect, the weather was near great and by the end of the game we had eleven players down!. We started off with nine due to illness on the day and to make things even Mellor graciously loaned one player for the first quarter.  Mellor had a strong 15 players and put in a sterling performance.

To be honest, i think this could have been the best performance that I have seen by the U11s.
Carys on the draw

From the start they were flying. Weetabix must have been consumed at a magnificent rate before the game!. The girls ran hard from the first whistle. They hustled and worked as a team on the ground balls, looked up field and moved the ball well when clearing from defence, they slid and covered Mellor players driving to goal, they passed and caught the ball well, they moved into space and all this was accomplished with looks of concentration and determination topped off with beaming smiles. A pleasure to watch, especially as half of the team only started this season.

The quarter scores are above and its shows that this was a closely contested game as both teams put in everything they had. Mellor's goalie made some cracking saves and moved around the goal well while the defence looked coordinated and made it difficult for Stockport to close in on goal.
Carys on another clear

As the game progressed, so did the skill level and on pretty much every attack the girls started to move into space and move the ball.

The pace of the game took its toll on our tight numbers and the midfielders were looking to the bench for a change over at times. Amber wanted to try her hand at midfield and she did herself proud as she worked just as hard to get back into defence as she did going forward.

Millie Sm volunteered to go in goal and she completed three quarters and was really taking to the position. She was moving around the goal and was following the ball which put her into great positions to make some fantastic saves.

Millie commanding at the back
Amelie, Effy and Carys were the walls in the defence, playing great position and steering Mellor attacks away from goal. Molly was following in their footsteps and is learning very quickly. She ploughed up and down the field and looked to be really enjoying herself. Effy chased down loose balls and hounded the Mellor attackers while Amelie took every opportunity to clear the ball and get it moving up field quickly. Carys wasn't holding back in this game snagging 6 goals and being a real headache for Mello all over the field

Big smiles Emma
Isla and Emma got a third of the total between them through pure tenacity. They both gave their all for the full 40 minutes. Emma, new to the game this season, took draw's in the centre, cleared and passed the ball like a pro and showed great all round awareness - excellent work. Isla loves a drive to goal and is turning into a real handful for any opposition. She's like a dynamo all game and if she carries on at this pace she will be force to be reckoned with.

Iris and Milly Sh stood their ground and are quickly picking up the game and becoming valued team players.

Jess E had another great game. She worked hard for the duration and had numerous attempts on goal after getting herself into excellent field positions and receiving passes from her team mates. Jess is developing into a very reliable player combining consistency, skill and pace.
Another feed going into Jess hiding behind the umpire

Can't praise the girls enough. Roll on the next game!!!

Great Team!

U14s Host Timperley

As the season starts to take shape, and all of the teams play each other before Christmas, one starts to quickly realise the level of competition that we face week in week out.
With this in mind, before face we knew that Timperley were certainly one of the better teams in the U14s this season, and we were in for a game today.
Interesting was how the game took shape, with Timperley winning at Face and we found ourselves a goal behind.  We moved the ball well and missed a couple of early chances giving our visitors another opportunity at the other end, and after about 5 or 6 minutes we found ourselves 2 down.  What was most pleasing was the attitude of the players, not getting on each others back, not moaning at everything which didn't pay off, they just got their head down and improved the way they were playing.  And with a very entertaining, strong quarter from both players, we crept into the lead at the end of the quarter, and it finished 4-3.
Quarter 2 wasn't to different from Q1, evenly contested face offs, evenly contested in attack and defence and 2 good keepers on display, it was pleasing to see that we managed to get a little bit of breathing space on our visitors with a 3-1 quarter.
Q3 and Q4 finished 3-2 and 2-1 in our favour giving us a 12-7 victory on the day.
6 of our 12 goals were assisted today, and some of the goals were absolutely terrific, end to end, quick movement and good finishing.
Scorers today Jacob B (2), Hugo (4), Rhys (2), Luca (4), but could have been more with the Stockport boys a little wasteful in front of goal with a total of 30 shots today. Assists go to Jacob B, Hugo (2), Rhys George and Luca.
Special mention to the defence, who continue to improve at a remarkable rate, and after 4 games we found ourselves only conceding 13 goals.

U14s/U16s Scrimmage Game

It is rare that both our teams didn't have a game on a Saturday Morning, but this particular morning that was the case.  Rather than leave some many lads without a game, it was decided to have a scrimmage game utilising the excellent facilities at Stockport.
Rather than mix the teams right from the off, it was decided that we would play U14s and U16s up against each other, and the combined Stellor team showed an edge, and went ahead 0-4 in the first quarter.  Strong at face, and moved the ball well, with excellent movement off the ball (especially from Ashley) showing how the game is all about the team.  When the U14s did have the ball, did they use it well, and did we try just a little too hard.
Q2 was very similar, and Stellor managed a further 4 goals to 1 from the U14s.
At this stage, (in order to ensure everyone got value from the game) it was decided to swap the attack line around, leaving the Middies and Defence the same, the game finished 4-9.
What an excellent morning, with a fabulous game of lacrosse played amongst friends.
