Ready to go!

Another great game from the U11s today! We learnt a few things while the wind was blowing the nets around and nearly blowing the girls over! We found out that:

  1. Lotta played her best game this season, mainly in defence today, stopping charge after Timperley charge on our goal.
  2. Effy stepped it up a gear and played amazing in defence.
  3. Mia J could possibly be the fastest girl on the team (close between her and Jess E)! She had a stormer today from solid defence, to attacks on goal and gave 100% all game!
  4. Isla has the heart of lion after stepping into the goalie position against a strong opposition.
  5. Daisy, although cold, put in consistently solid shift after shift and battled the whole game through.
  6. Nadine played amazingly with the biggest smile for the entire 40 minutes!
  7. Amelie and Beau are great in goal and turning into a very good defenders.
The game started off with Timperley on board a steam train and they rattled home four goals before we got going. This did not deter our girls at all. After the wake up call we quickly regrouped and slowed down the Timperley rush on our goal. Lotta, Amelie, Mia F and Carys started playing solid defence and the quarter ended up 0-6 to Timperley

The second quarter was a totally different game. Isla made some amazing stick saves frustrating Timperley and keeping them at two goals for the quarter. Amy and Olivia got stuck in up front helping to generate attacks on goal. Fran and Mia F were obviously not happy that we hadn't scored yet and they made it their business get us on the score sheet. Two great goals from these two leaders made the quarter score 2-2.

Next shift getting a brief from Liv
Q3 saw a change in goalie and Beau relished the chance to step into the cage and Isla was looking forward to playing outfield. Stockport were ramping it up and Liv's game plan was coming together. On the fast astroturf, the ball was whipping up and down the field but both teams were struggling to finish. Defensive units, at either end, rallied and the quarter ended up in nil-nil deadlock. Parents, although wind beaten into the astroturf fence, cheered the girls on and were enjoying the spectacle.

Lucy leading the charge
Q4 was a Stockport show of strength and persistence. Jess E completed some powerful clearing, carrying the ball through a sea of Timperley players into our attacking half.  Jess B was flying up and down the side line with her usual cheeky smile as she cleared the ball, increasing the pressure on Timperley. Mia F kept plugging away with a tight cradle, nifty moves and clinical finishing and logged a hat-trick in the final quarter. Lucy P grabbed another goal after a fantastic game which saw her winning ground balls, clearing the ball and changing hands in tight positions to get herself some space.
Smiling goal assassin

Thank you to Jim for reffing, Doaa for photography Paul for Scoring and Liv for coaching after just returning from holiday.

U14s Host Mellor

In recent times, there is (arguably) no better game than an U14s game between Mellor and Stockport.  Both teams are strong, with a good number of Metro players within their ranks.  They are both coached well, and both believe in playing good lacrosse, and both are capable of winning this fixture.
It was then a little surprising that this was a scrappy affair, with a little less flowing lacrosse, but a more physical encounter, and quite a few contested ground balls.
Tactics were on show today, with both teams knowing  each other well, both sets of coaches were looking to nullify the oppositions threat but it was an intriguing game to watch.
The game started, with Stockport winning the face and then dominating the face thereafter, and a couple of wasted opportunities allowed Mellor to go down the other way and get the first goal of the morning, soon to be followed by a solo effort giving them a 2 goal lead.  Stockport did manage to get 1 back before the break.
Don't know what it is about Q2, but the previous weeks we have dominated in this quarter, and today was no different.  A strong forward thinking passage of play, and Rhys on fire in front of goal this was definitely a quarter for the boys in blue.  A surging 5-1 quarter in our favour.
Q3 and Q4 were much tighter, with an injury to Cameron the other boys were strong throughout, with a 2-1, and a 2-2 quarter.
10 goals, Rhys (6), Hugo (2), Will H (2) and 7 assists Hugo (3), Joel, Luca, Cameron and Aaron with one of his surging runs he fed Rhys on the crease.
10-6 on the day, and a well fought victory, perhaps not a classic but a victory none the less.

All raring to go

U12s Stockport vs Cheadle Hulme/Norbury

U12s Stockport vs Cheadle Hulme/Norbury

Stockport looked like we were going to be short of players first  thing a Cheadle Hulme during the warm up with just nine players, until some last minute players brought the team to 13 players.with Finn stepping into his Dad`s shoes this week, literally, seeing as though he forgot his own!

Q1. Stockport opened the score first with a Dan Teal goal, soon after face off, but then Stockport didn’t look like they were feeling it for the rest of the first quarter with some scrappy play and most of the possession going to Cheadle/Norbry, luckily Henry put one in as well as Jacob so we finished 3 all by the end of the first quarter.

Q2. Stockport got into their stride a bit in this quarter fighting harder for the ball and managing two more goals from Jacob and Dan Teal, with some great running from Henry in midfield. A lot more of the newer Stockport players getting involved now chasing and contending the ground balls well ending Q2 Stockport 5 Cheadle/Norbury 4

Q3. Stockport battled well for possession with the ball spending a lot of time still being scrapped for on the ground. Stockport scored another two goals by Jacob B and also magnificent very first goal by Tom Smith towards the end of the quarter which was really well received and cheered for by everyone, even congratulated by the opposition! Well done Tom!  Q3 Stockport 8 Cheadle/Norbury 5

Q4. This week Stockport really worked well together as a team collectively fighting for the loose ball with probably the most passes the team has completed all season. With another goal from Jacob B and then Dan Teal.
Some last attempts at goal from Cheadle/Norbury with some run and Gun from their no 81 in particular.
Josh saved more than Stockport scored today really stepping up, he had an excellent game in goal making 14 saves contending Norbury`s no 81. With a few iffy clearances in the first half and then breaking his stick towards the end of the game, with help from Ethan and George coming up got receive clearances they really kept the ball out well.

Final Score Stockport 10 Cheadle/Norbury 8

Goal Scorers.  Tom Smith 1  Henry 1  Dan Teal 3 Jacob B 5
