U14s Away at Timperley in Cup Qualifiers

That's was a turn up for the books, we always know that Timperley improve as the season goes on, but we didn't really expect a defeat at this stage of the season.  Although nothing gets decided it makes the route to Rochdale a little more difficult on paper.  Timperley kindly agreed to an early face off, and with some inclement weather in recent days the pitch wasn't playable and we were switched to the ageing astro.
First faceoff of the day, and Timperley came up with the ball, but after that Jay dominated all day at face winning everything which was asked of him.
On most occasions if you conceded 5 goals, the offensive players would  go on and win the game, but we just didn't have our shooting boots with us.  In a tight game, Q1 finished even at 1 a piece, and then in Q2 we got a little bit of breathing space with a 2-0 nothing quarter and I personally believed we would crack on and get a few more but we just didn't manage it.
Q3 Timperley brought themselves back with a 1-2 quarter, and then in Q4 we didn't manage to find the back of the net, to Timperley's 2, so on the day we lost 5-4.
Strange game on the day, but decision making in front of goal comes with experience, and the more we play together, retain the ball better, the more we will improve.  Its not always the right thing to go to goal, sometimes we are shooting when we don't need to, and sometimes we are bringing it out when we should be going for goal.  On the day 25 shots, only 11 on target and only 4 went in, so enough for us to work on going forward.  The goals we conceded came on the back of a missed opportunity, and a slip or a loss of footwork on the half, leaving us on a 2 on 3.
Great kids who need to work hard, and practise to reach their potential.
