U12s at Home against Liverpool

It has been a couple of years since we last entertained Liverpool, and appreciate all the efforts they are doing to #growthegame down the M62.  Unfortunately they could only manage 7 players and we agreed to make up their numbers to have a 10-a-side game, so firstly a massive thank you to Sam P, Henry P, Archie, Thurston and Noah for kindly playing for Liverpool today.
Due to the excellent work of everyone, and supportive parents, our numbers are increasing.  We even had the luxury of playing 4 lads at U14s, which allows us to get more players involved and allows for other players to have a bigger impact on the game.
The game was a little closer than expected, and despite our numbers we were unable to make the advantage count, with a Q1 quarter, only going 2-1 in our favour.  The strength and athleticism of some of the Liverpool players gave us a surprise, and our new defensive line will be tested today.  with a goal right at the end of Q2, we had a 3-1 quarter and a little bit of breathing space.  Q3 was an even 1-1, and Q4 went 3-2 in our favour leaving us with a 9-5 victory.
Really impressed with the defence, who improved massively as the game went on, and another thank you to Jay and Jacob for taking turns in between the pipes.  The other goal which is worthy of note, was Henry's towards the end of the game, not just the finish but the work which Sam P did to win the ball in the first place.
Excellent teamwork today, and no giving up from any of the team.
Cup Quarter final next week.
