U12s Away at Timperley A

On a terribly wet morning, played on Astro Turf we met a strong team from Timperley.  The strong nature of some of the challenges threatened to over shadow two good lacrosse teams trying to play both the weather, and the pitch (Not so familiar to Stockport) as soon as the ball was dropped it just runs and runs out of play.  The first quarter, certainly didn't go our way with Timperley rushing to a 4-2 Q1, and the 2nd quarter went Timperley's way 2-1 leaving us trailing 6-3 at half time.  At this stage, a change was needed, and our less experienced defence, was changed around for some more experience and size, and we started to get used to the conditions and started to turn it around.  Stockport managed a 0-2 quarter, and with 15 to go in Q4 we found ourselves 1 down with it all to play for.  The little lads in Stockport Blue did the business, with a 1-3 quarter, with Rhys popping up for the all important last two goals of the day.  Only 2 scorers today, Hugo (6), and Rhys (2), and a terrific performance between the pipes from Aaron, with 12 fine saves (even one with his butt end).  So a tough morning overall, which ended with a victory.

U12s at Home V Mellor

It been a fair few months since our last game, and with a good Summer, with lots of practice and a few new additions.  We start the season with fresh optimism, and a quiet belief that we can have a good season, encouraging good teamwork and bringing a maturity to the team that so many Year 7s can bring.
As with Stockport, Mellor will enter the season with lots of changes, with players moving up to a new age groups, one never knows if our opposition will be stronger than in previous years.  We simply have to play to our strengths, move the ball well and encourage a style of play which brings the new players forward.
The game itself started brightly, with all 3 players we used at face being dominant.  At the end of Q1, we found ourselves 3-0 up, Q2 was another strong quarter with Stockport dominating to a 5-2 quarter, which left Mellor the opportunity to take Free Clears for the rest of the game, we were still able to have a 4-2 quarter in Q3.  We found ourselves 12-4 up with a quarter to play, we used all the resources available and changed things about giving Mellor an opportunity to pull 3 goals back leaving it a respectable victory of 12-7 to Stockport.  We managed 5 different scorers, with 3 from Rhys, 2 from Jay, 5 from Hugo, 1 from Luca and the first goal scored in Stockport Blue by Daniel.  If we were only slightly more clinical in front of goal, from our staggering 31 shots the score would have been significantly more.
Fantastic welcome to the 3 new players, George, Cormack and Henry.

How great can this team be?

U12s at Home to WACS

Delighted to welcome a full compliment of players from WACS for the first time in a few years.  Took a short while to get going, with us being a little complacent in front of goal.  However, once we settled down, we established ourselves with some good lacrosse and well executed goals.  Good team goals, with excellent clears from the keeper, some slick interpassing, and good finishing up front it was good to watch.  Q1 was a 5-1 quarter, and with the coach resting a few experienced players, Q2 was even at 1-1.  Q3 and Q4 had normal service restored, with a 4-1 and 4-0 quarter leaving ourselves 14-3 victors.  WACS nominated to take the free clear, despite being competitive in this area, and they scored a few 1 on 1s with the keeper.  Excellent to have 13 players with us today, providing the coach with lots of options throughout the game.  A little wasteful in front of goal today, with us scoring 14 of our 32 shots, with goals from Rhys (5), William (3), Jay (2), Luca, and Cameron (3).  Semi Final this week against Timperley.

Maybe a little tight for Hugo
