Two big smiles for two big goals - really well done!!!

Thank you to Phil J and Andrew H for umpiring, Isabelle B and Hannah J for score keeping and helping out with swapping the goalies around and to the parents for helping set the pitch up, take great pics, sort the kitchen and clean up post game

I'm not one to endorse dope testing at U11 but this week the girls were on fire and on a completely new level. The weather turned from heavy rain to a lovely pleasant Sunday morning, perfect for the U11s to turn it on and step up into a new gear.

From the first whistle they went straight for goal. The girls seemed pumped up and ready play! To be honest, I can't remember exactly who scored the first goal (Mia F or Lucy P), as you can see we had 6 scorers.

Mia J - 1 goal, 1 assist amazing all round game
Isla volunteered to go in goal and suited up. At first, Stockport had most of the possession and a good flurry of goals to start the game off. When Mellor did get the ball in their offensive half, the defence of Lotta, Carys, Summer and Effy turned away effort after effort, protecting their goalie. Mellor kept pressing but the girls stood strong and played great positional defence, forced Mellor turnovers and cleared the ball with confidence. It was great to see early passes coming from the clearing ball carriers. They were sprinting out of their own half and looking up field toward the open players.
Good defence played high up the field
Another noticeable difference this week was the attention to ground balls. Our completion rate on picking up ground balls was a vast improvement on previous games which helped with more possession and increased chances on goal.

Offensive passing had also improved dramatically with Amy T, Jess E and Daisy moving really well, getting into open spaces forming a nice structure around the goal. Passing and movement at the offensive was evidenced by the three recorded assisted goals. Great to see the girls making a move towards goal and if its not on, throwing a good pass to the open player. Great all round teamwork. We also witnessed Mia F take her defender on from behind the goal and neatly tuck one of her 6 away (wonder where she learnt that Dad?).

Carys clearing with her new stick and making the up field pass
Pownall power - Daisy, Jess E, Lotta and Mia J look like they've been playing for about four seasons and not just starting their careers. Their attitude to the game, effort they put in, sense of team spirit and overall enthusiasm is commendable!

Pep talk from coach
Special mention this week to Lucy and Fran. Both leading from the front again, 9 goals and 1 assist between them. Both are maturing into fantastic team players, supporting the newer players, taking stints in goal, playing with big smiles and being all round good eggs - well done both!!

Strong game from Daisy ploughing upfield towards goal
The team is improving every week and we are looking forward to our next match up against Cheadle on the 24th February. Enjoy more great pictures below.

Isla - youngest on the pitch, great individual effort to bag her first goal

Power cradle from Fran - Very very impressive performance

Mia F - whatever you had for breakfast, have the same again before every game!!

Familiar position for Mia
