Another eagerly awaited fixture against a strong team from Cheadle. We were at full strength, with lots of guys wanting to get on and play.
The game started well for Stockport, strong at the face-off and eager to move the ball around. First 2 goals were fine efforts from Hugo, both on his left hand. Before Cheadle were given any chance in the game we managed another two in the first quarter and we look perfectly settled. Cheadle to their credit, don't give up and have some talent in their ranks so it wasn't a surprise that they managed to get another couple back before the end of Q1, leaving the quarter 2-4 in our favour.
As was the case (the previous week) our 2nd quarter was a dominant part of our game with a, strong performance all over the park. We worked hard to win (practically) all available ground balls, defended well, disciplined, and breaking play down when we got an opportunity. Moving forward, we excelled, quick incisive play creating lots of opportunity to score, and this we did a plenty, with a 0-5 quarter leaving us 2-9 up to the good.
Q3 and Q4, were much tighter affairs, where the strength of the team started to come to the fore. Bringing players into the game, showing our strength in depth and giving players valuable experience against good players. Both final quarters finished 1-2 in our favour, leaving us victors on the day 4-13.
Overall, possibly our best performance of the season, the improvements throughout the team is immense. The defence, are getting used to playing with the long poles, and are extremely disciplined and well coached which is starting to show as the season develops. The energy in midfield is phenomenal and the movement up front (off the ball) was the best its been all season.
Scorers today, Hugo (5), Rhys (2), Will H (2), Cameron (4), and 6 saves today.
