As Storm Deirdre decided to make an appearance for this bitterly cold encounter in Heaton Mersey, the full strength team from Stockport turned up to face a depleted Mersey team missing a couple of players and the coach.
We set about Q1 in excellent fashion, winning all the faces, quick movement and decisive finishing leaving us 6 goals to the good. Coach Rolo was very visible on the field of play helping both teams with their set up, what to improve, and how to organise themselves.
Q2 was a little strange, moving players to the bench and rotating, we found ourselves losing this quarter 1-0, so 6-1 it was. The coach on the fields of play decided to swap the players around, at Half Time, swapping the front line and a midfielder around, we called the result at 1-6. Even Hugo & Aaron swapped around to give the keeper his first run out in nearly 2 seasons.
This is where a cold and bitter morning turned into a really enjoyable experience, with teammates lining up against each other, and opposition players playing with different teammates, the standard of play improved, players found a new level of confidence, and the play was enjoyable.
Two massive cheers of the day, firstly when Aaron got sent off for interfering with a keeper in the crease, and secondly when Hugo saved from Cameron.
What could have been a procession, became a great morning by embracing the spirit of lacrosse.
