U12s Stockport vs Boardman and Eccles.
It was good to see Stockport arriving at the Monton Sports Club with 15 players all keen to play against Boardman and Eccles. The boys in blue got off to a quick start and rattled in three goals before the opposition managed to get through the defence and finally get the ball into the back of our net.
The whole team was playing well, with everyone contributing and even though we weren’t dominating at face-off we were winning enough ball to keep good forward momentum and battle through some determined Boardman defence.
At the same time, our defence was looking well organised and the plans put in place during training seem to already be paying dividends during the matches. Also, Josh was having a great day between the posts and his work certainly helped us make the score look more convincing than it would have otherwise been the case. The opposition were competetive all over the pitch but we were able to keep moving ahead because of some individual skills and our overall determination and effort.
It also helped that the coaches were able to cycle players through the bench quite quickly so we always had fresh legs and everyone got a chance to get involved.
It really wasn’t a day to pick out individuals but a special mention must go to Felix who scored his first goal for the club, the ball broke to him in a bit of space and there followed a text book example of collecting the ground ball followed by a run and shot that was always destined to find the net. We also had Ryan on debut and Leo rejoining the team, both these lads got stuck in and didn’t look at all out of place.
We came away with some bumps and bruises and our first win of the season but the most pleasing part of the performance was that the lads enjoyed themselves and are improving week-on-week, there is definitely more to come from this squad.
